Photo: Sunflower mine separator pipe amid the ruins

In order to pulverize rock, to heat it to vaporize the mercury embedded within the ore, and then to cool the vapors and collect the mercury that has condensed out of the vapors, you can imagine that there would need to be some very heavy machinery.

This giant pipe is part of the separator to extract the mercury from the ore. I think this pipe will last a lot longer than the building that houses it. In fact, the building is already in the midst of a slow process of falling down.

I think industrial scenes such as this led themselves to black and white. I hope Stuart does not mind me altering his color photo.

This week we are showing photos of Tanzania on our Viva la Voyage travel photo site.

I think this machinery will be around for centuries, as things like this do not rust in the Arizona desert.

This is a little scary looking. I wouldn't want to crawl around in there for very long.

Looks like some other people have made their mark on this pipe!

These old mines really take you back in time and I find them very interesting.
