Photo: Scottsdale Farmer's Market

Here is another photo from the Farmer's Market, held each Saturday morning in the parking lot at 1st Street and Brown and downtown Scottsdale.   People like the local produce and other products.

This week we are showing photos of the bottom of the Grand Canyon on our Viva la Voyage travel photo site.

People like to bring their dogs to the Farmer's Market.  Maybe it is because they can't take dogs into a regular grocery store.  Or maybe they like to get a bit to eat at an outdoor cafe where they can bring their dogs after shopping at the Farmer's Market.  Or maybe it is because some of he booths at the Farmer's Market sell dog treats.

Whatever the reason, there is always activity in the form of dogs greeting dogs. In this case, it is a little Yellow Lab convention.  My husband had a Yellow Lab named Tortilla, a good Arizona name, that also matched the dog's color.

Tomorrow, I will show you a very different approach to bringing a dog to the Farmer's Market.

Today is Sunday, so we have new photos posted on our Viva la Voyage travel photo site.  This week we are showing the architecture of ancient Cambodia.

Photo: Scottsdale Farmer's Market Food Booths

The Scottsdale Farmer's Market has a wide variety of food booths, selling baked goods, cheese, olive oil, jams and jellies, and other types of food products.

Some of the vendors are local folks who produce the food.  Some appear to be more commercial.  For example, a gourmet olive oil store on Main Street, just one block away, has a food booth.  I guess it is good advertising for the store.

People seem to enjoy browsing and sampling the offerings.

Photo: Scottsdale Farmer's Market

I mentioned that the Old Adobe Mission is across the street from the Saturday Scottsdale Farmer's Market.  Here is a photo of some of the produce.

They plan to keep the Farmer's Market open year this summer, although the summer hours are form 7 to 11 am.  After that, it is just too hot.

Scottsdale Farmer's Market

There is nothing better than spending a morning at a local farmer's market. Last Saturday I had a great experience at the Old Town Scottsdale Farmer's Market. The food and ambience was wonderful.

As you can see from my collage of photos today, there are good things to eat and drink for everyone. The eggs in the first photo are cage-free natural eggs. The second photo contains some of the very best pistachios and they were from Parcave farms.

I purchased jalapeno sourdough bread from Breadsmith and it was flavorful and delicious.
I also bought a dozen tamales from the Tamale Store. The green corn/cream cheese and chicken/green chile tamales were heavenly. The cupcakes and homemade fudge were decadent.

Bob McClendon's Select organic produce was available. His farm supplies first-rate organic veggies to local restaurant chefs. Chef Payton Curry of Digestif was there making mozzarella and he had many savory toppings for the fresh cheese.

The farmer's market operates 8:30 am to 1:00 pm every Saturday through May 2009. The market is located in the Old Town Scottsdale parking lot on the Northwest corner of Brown Avenue and Second Street.
