This will follow up on and conclude my little series about the glass artisans at the art fair at the Scottsdale Waterfront.  The portable furnace is in the background.

After heating up the glass, the artisan would roll it in colored beads or flakes, which stuck to the glass and added color that would melt into the glass.  It was an entertaining process to watch.

The Sunday morning arts and crafts fair at the Scottsdale Waterfront also included some young Latina dancers.  We did not have enough time to stay for the performance, but we did chat with some of the dancers who were walking around before their performance.

It is good to see Arizona celebrate its Latino heritage.

This is a daytime view of the entire Wedding Party art installation.  I showed a night time view of several of these Scaphalopod figures a few days ago.

This art, created by Pete Goldlust, is part of the Canal Convergence art installation on display through this summer along the Scottsdale Waterfront.

Photo: Upside down umbrellas

This photo is not upside down.  These are some of the umbrellas hanging upside down from the superstructure of the pedestrian bridge over the canal that divides the Scottsdale Waterfront project and the shopping area around Scottsdale Fashion Square with the Southbridge project and downtown Scottsdale.

 The umbrellas add a little artistic flair to the ceiling of the bridge, and at times they drip or spray water on pedestrians.  In Arizona, it is so warm that we do not mind a little water.

Photo: Crafts fair on the pedestrian bridge at the Scottsdale Waterfront

This is a pedestrian bridge over the canal that separates the Scottsdale Waterfront from the Southbridge projects in downtown Scottsdale.

There is a crafts fair on the bridge and the surrounding plaza on Sundays and Thursday evenings, as you can see in this photo.

In addition to the umbrellas providing shade for the crafts booths, there are umbrellas hanging upside down from the top of the bridge.  That is part of an art installation.

This is a closer view of the one of the figures in the Scapholopods art installation by Pete Goldlust that I showed yesterday at the Scottsdale Waterfront.

This art is called The Wedding Party, and I guess it will be a fun wedding party.  

This is part of the Canal Convergence art installations along the Scottsdale Waterfront, which will be in place through the summer.

This is another part of the Canal Convergence public art installation at the Scottsdale Waterfront, which is on display through this spring and summer.

This art is called Scaphalopods in Springtime (The Wedding Party) by by Pete Goldlust.  They look like something from Alice in Wonderland.  People enjoy posing for pictures with these figures.

Here is yet another view of the lighted cacti around one of the fountains at the Scottsdale Waterfront.

Too bad real cacti do not have spikes that loop around like this.  It would avoid a lot of the pain and aggravation of brushing up against desert plants.

It would also give peace of mind to my mother.  She feels like she has to supervise her dog in my back yard because she evidently thinks her dog is not smart enough to stay away from plants with thorns.

This is a close up of the lighted cactus that I showed yesterday.  It has little lighted tubes in place of the the thorns of the cactus.  It also was painted with a nautical motif, which of course is the opposite of what one would expect for a desert cactus.

I am not quite sure if this is anther part of the Wild Flower Current art that is part of the Canal Convergence public art installation at the Scottsdale Waterfront, which is on display through this spring and summer.

These were part of a series of lighted cacti that surrounded one of the fountains along the canal bank that is part of the Scottsdale Waterfront condo complex.  

Yesterday I showed a scene of the Wild Flower Current by Mary Shendell along the canal bank, and I do not know if these were part of the same installation.

Photo: Women posing inside the Dual Apparition

Several people yesterday guessed that inside the Dual Apparition sculpture that I showed in yesterday's photo was a group of young women. Here is a view through the opening, where their friend was taking their photo.

This is a common scene.  After all, this is Scottsdale on a Saturday night.  There are lots of restaurants and night clubs in the downtown Scottsdale entertainment district.

It seems that little black dresses are the uniform for young women to wear for such occasions.

Here is a photo of the Dual Apparitions on the Soleri Bridge at night.

It is sad that this is the week that Paolo Soleri passed away.  He was in his 90's and he was a true visionary.

His house is on the grounds of Cosanti, the studio and foundry where they make the famous Soleri bells.  We live close by, and when we visited Cosanti we could see Paolo Soleri tending to his garden.l

He will be missed.

Photo: Dual Apparitions on Soleri Bridge

This is a photo of one of the Dual Apparitions by artist Kendall Buster on the Paolo Soleri pedestrian bridge over the canal at the Scottsdale Waterfront.

The red stripe on the bridge is the stripe that the performance artists set on fire during the ceremony that I showed on this website last week.

This looks like a giant egg, but it is hollow inside, as I will show in the days ahead.

One of the Scottsdale Waterfont condo buildings is in the background at the left.

Photo: Paolo Soleri Bridge with the Dual Apparitions

This is a view west along the canal at the Scottsdale Waterfront to the Paolo Soleri Bridge.  The art installation entitled Dual Apparitions, buy Kendall Buster, is located on the bridge.  I will show some additional view of this in the days ahead.

This art installation is part of the Canal Convergence festival in observance of the Spring Equinox.

Photo: Solar Ceremony at Soleri Bridge

Because this was a solar ceremony at the Soleri Bridge, it seems fitting to conclude this little series with a photo that shows the ceremony, the bridge abutments, and the sun.

An unusual feature of the Soleri Bridge is that it is a suspension bridge, but it is suspended from ony one side of the the bridge.  There are no abutments on the other side.

This is the only bridge designed by world famous architect Paolo Soleri, who lives nearby.  He designed Arcosanti, a new city in the desert.  It was a pioneering concept of living in harmony with nature that he championed more than 50 years ago.

This is the little plaza next to the suspension bridge abutments of the Soleri pedestrian bridge across the canal at the Scottsdale waterfront.

This is where the celebration of Spring ceremony was recently held, and the strip on the pavement of this photo was part of the ceremony.  I will show you  how, tomorrow.

The theme for City Daily Photo bloggers around the world for April 1 is "Pedestrians Crossing."  Here is a group of pedestrians crossing next to the footbridge over the canal at the Scottsdale Waterfront.

A week ago Sunday my mother, her dog, my husband and I had breakfast at a little cafe along the Scottsdale Waterfront.  When we finished this group came walking by.  I think they were runners, but they were taking a break from running.

It is perfect spring weather in Scottsdale right now, as you can tell from the way these men are dressed.

Photo: Torch ablaze

The Flam Chen performance artists carried poles that were set ablaze during the solar ceremony to mark the beginning of Spring last weekend.  This photo caught the burning pole as it pointed right at us as the performance artists marched in circles around the Paolo Soleri plaza.
