When I sit in my home office I can often see lizards climbing a tree in the front yard.  I like them, and I assume they are beneficial in eating insects.

This is a cropped photo taken with a telephoto from a distance through the window, as the lizards scamper away if I open my front door and walk outside.

We have lots of rabbit in our yard.  This one paused to look at our swimming pool.  I wish he would eat the weeds that sprouted amidst the barrel cacti behind him, but no such luck.

Birds aren't the only creatures who love our yard.  We have lots of rabbits in the neighborhood.  When we return home in the evening or get the newspaper in the morning, we usually have a half dozen or so rabbits scurrying about.

Our next door neighbor has a little artificial stream though some rock features in their back yard, so the rabbits have a good water source.

The presence of so many rabbits also attracts coyotes.  We do not see them as often, but at times they walk down the street checking out the yards for rabbits.  A few times they have even hopped over the 6 foot (nearly 2 meters) wall into our back yard.

I saw this sign and logo on the side of a truck recently.  I did not know that there was an Arizona Trappers Association.  I think that wild animals should be left free to live in the wild.

There are humane traps, and deadly traps.  I especially hope that they do not use traps that hurt animals.

Theme day: Animal Food Focus

Here is a photo of my Mom's white boxer staring at some very rare prime rib.

The boxer's name is Stella.

Stella would not ever grab food off the plate so no need to worry that she will take it, but she will have an intense, singularly focused stare.

The lizards in the desert of Arizona re quite colorful and different.

Here is a photo of an interesting lizard who is staking out his territory.

Look at the turquoise color if his scales on the top of his head and his tale.

Here is a photo of a chuckawalla lizard in the desert and a white flower at its feet.

He has quite tough looking skin.

Lizards look so prehistoric and are very cool. I like them all including Iguanas and Horned toads.

Snake on Red Rock

Here is a photo of a green and white snake slithering over my path while I was hiking in Boynton canyon in Sedona.

The snake came slithering right after a light drizzle of rain. It was a harmless snake and quite pretty to see against the red rocks.

Lizard on Red Rock

Here is a photo of a lizard on the shiny red rock right after a drizzle of rain.

Sedona's red rock is really red. This little critter is enjoying an interesting hike over the sculptured red rock.

Chuckawalla

Look at the photo of this interesting lizard.

This is a chuckawalla lizard and they live in the Southwestern desert.

They can swell their bodies up with air to block themselves into tight locations so that predators cannot pull them out.

I like the angle and perspective of this lizard. He certainly looks prehistoric.

Quack, Quack, Quack!

Here is a photo of a mother and ten little ducklings.

They do not belong in the rocks, under a bush, by a cement driveway at a home.

The mother and little ones were not near water, which can be very dangerous especially in the Arizona heat.

There are groups like Liberty Wildlife who can help provide animal rescue when this situation occurs. And that is who we called. But some of them ended up in a neighbors fountain until all of the little ducklings could be captured.

Red and Black Arabian Costume

Look at the details in this photo of this red and black Arabian costume.

This costume for horse and rider was worn during the Arabian Mounted Native Costume event at the 55th Annual Scottsdale Arabian Horse show.

The Arabian Horse Show runs from February 11 through February 22.

At the 55th Annual Scottsdale Arabian Horse Show, one of the events is a Native Arabian Costume Event.

A Trainer and Arabian Horse

Look at the photo of this trainer and his Arabian Horse getting ready to compete in the ring.

The Arabian horse is alert and watching the trainer for cues.

The Arabian is a beautiful color and competed very well in the ring at the Scottsdale Arabian Horse Show.

The Show ends on February 22, 2010.

The Scottsdale Arabian Horse Show

The 55th Annual Scottsdale Arabian Horse Show started on February 11 at West World.

There will be more than 2,300 horses from around the World coming to Scottsdale.

This week, the photos on our Viva la Voyage travel photo site features the Volcano on the Big Island of Hawaii.

Waiting to Strike

This venomous Mohave Rattlesnake is waiting to strike!

This month's theme is Waiting. I though this photo was perfect for a Southwest perspective on theme day.

This Mohave rattler was holding position with no movement and I was able to capture this phenomenal close up.

You can see this rattler's eye and eye lid in the first photo. The details of the front of this snake are amazing.

The second photo shows the snake further back. I used a 300 lens to capture the details and was very lucky the snake held still and was in a good location for me to capture this image.
