I wonder whether this accident occurred while the mine was operating before 1965. I am not surprised that the original paint is visible and the truck has not rusted out in 50 years, but I am surprised that the rubber is still on the tires.
My father would hate to see a truck in this condition. He is retired now, but he taught heavy equipment operations and mechanics at a community college between Phoenix and Tucson. This helped young people qualify for jobs that usually paid a decent wage, and many of his students were native Americans who live on nearby Indian lands. Before he became a teacher, he worked building roads in rough country. And, yes, for a time we lived in a trailer at a junkyard of heavy equipment.
This week we are showing photos of Tanzania on our Viva la Voyage travel photo site.

You are so right about those tires. It almost makes me think this was a more recent accident.
The timetable for this accident scene is indeed a mystery. Part of the puzzlement is that those huge timbers must have come crashing down after the truck flipped.
It is a scary sight. Hope the driver and any passengers got out OK.
A long way from a trailer, Julie . . .
A rather sad photo and a mystery as well.
