Photo: Women posing inside the Dual Apparition

Several people yesterday guessed that inside the Dual Apparition sculpture that I showed in yesterday's photo was a group of young women. Here is a view through the opening, where their friend was taking their photo.

This is a common scene.  After all, this is Scottsdale on a Saturday night.  There are lots of restaurants and night clubs in the downtown Scottsdale entertainment district.

It seems that little black dresses are the uniform for young women to wear for such occasions.

Today is Sunday, so we have new photos posted on our Viva la Voyage travel photo site. This week we are showing some scenes of the wildlife and people of Tanzania, Africa.

Photo: Dual Apparitions at Night

Here is a photo of the Dual Apparitions on the Soleri Bridge at night.

It is sad that this is the week that Paolo Soleri passed away.  He was in his 90's and he was a true visionary.

His house is on the grounds of Cosanti, the studio and foundry where they make the famous Soleri bells.  We live close by, and when we visited Cosanti we could see Paolo Soleri tending to his garden.l

He will be missed.

Photo: Dual Apparitions on Soleri Bridge

This is a photo of one of the Dual Apparitions by artist Kendall Buster on the Paolo Soleri pedestrian bridge over the canal at the Scottsdale Waterfront.

The red stripe on the bridge is the stripe that the performance artists set on fire during the ceremony that I showed on this website last week.

This looks like a giant egg, but it is hollow inside, as I will show in the days ahead.

One of the Scottsdale Waterfont condo buildings is in the background at the left.

Photo: Paolo Soleri Bridge with the Dual Apparitions

This is a view west along the canal at the Scottsdale Waterfront to the Paolo Soleri Bridge.  The art installation entitled Dual Apparitions, buy Kendall Buster, is located on the bridge.  I will show some additional view of this in the days ahead.

This art installation is part of the Canal Convergence festival in observance of the Spring Equinox.

Photo: Solar Ceremony at Soleri Bridge

Because this was a solar ceremony at the Soleri Bridge, it seems fitting to conclude this little series with a photo that shows the ceremony, the bridge abutments, and the sun.

An unusual feature of the Soleri Bridge is that it is a suspension bridge, but it is suspended from ony one side of the the bridge.  There are no abutments on the other side.

This is the only bridge designed by world famous architect Paolo Soleri, who lives nearby.  He designed Arcosanti, a new city in the desert.  It was a pioneering concept of living in harmony with nature that he championed more than 50 years ago.

Photo: Flaming stripe

The solar ceremony for the first day of Spring included dancers with torches, and one of the torches lit the little stripe on the sidewalk, which sent a flame burning down the sidewalk to the bridge abutment of the Soleri Bridge.

The fire steaming down the sidewalk was certainly a surprise to the people gathered around.

Photo: Plaza in front of Soleri Bridge

This is the little plaza next to the suspension bridge abutments of the Soleri pedestrian bridge across the canal at the Scottsdale waterfront.

This is where the celebration of Spring ceremony was recently held, and the strip on the pavement of this photo was part of the ceremony.  I will show you  how, tomorrow.

Photo: Torch ablaze

The Flam Chen performance artists carried poles that were set ablaze during the solar ceremony to mark the beginning of Spring last weekend.  This photo caught the burning pole as it pointed right at us as the performance artists marched in circles around the Paolo Soleri plaza.

This week we have photos of Jerusalem posted on our Viva la Voyage travel photo site.  We are featuring photos that show both the Muslim and Jewish holy sites, including the Dome of the Rock and the Wailing Wall.

Photo: Performance Artists on Stilts

The Flam Chen performance artists used their stilts and poles that seemed at times to be like jousting poles to form various formations as part of the solar ceremony in the plaza on the Paolo Soleri-designed pedestrian suspension bridge over the canal at the Scottsdale Waterfront.

Since this was a solar ceremony, I tried to get a low camera angle to include the sun, the bridge and the artists in the photo, which was tough to do.  I wish I had brought a wider angle lens.

Photo: Performance artists

Here is a closer view of two of the Flam Chen performance artists participating in the solar ceremony for the beginning of Spring last weekend.

The abutments of the Soleri Suspension bridge are in the background.   It is a pedestrian bridge over the canal at the Scottsdale Waterfront.  It is the only bridge by reknown architect Paolo Soleri.

Photo: Solar Ceremony at Soleri Bridge

Yesterday was the Solar Ceremony performed by Flam Chen on the Soleri Bridge and Plaza and the Scottsdale Waterfront.

These performers on stilts did a routine of walking and contorting themselves into different shapes and configurations, and lit a flair that ran down the length of the sidewalk to the suspension bridge abutment.

This ceremony marked the beginning of Spring. There are special street art exhibitions and performances this weekend that aim to involve the audience.  There is also an art fair, and perfect Arizona spring weather.

Today is Sunday, so we have new photos posted on our Viva la Voyage travel photo site.  This week we are showing photos of Jerusalem from a trip that Dave and I took there earlier this month.  We are featuring photos that show both the Muslim and Jewish holy sites, including the Dome of the Rock and the Wailing Wall.

Photo: Soleri Bells

This is a photo of the Paolo Soleri bells outside the front of the Gainey Ranch Country Club.

The light made an interesting shadow.

Some friends invited us to brunch and it was very enjoyable.

You may recall that Soleri bells are very popular in Arizona. Check out Soleri on my labels for my information about this interesting artist.

Photo: Soleri Bridge and Soleri Bell

Here is the last photo in the series of the new Soleri Bridge in Scottsdale.

Paolo Soleri is known for making bells. We have several of his unique bells in our back yard.

Soleri bells look good and sound good. I can hear them in the house when the wind blows.

Jim Lowman took this great photo. Jim's website is Leafdog Art Gallery.

Photo: Soleri Bridge to the Sky

Here is an awesome image of the new Paolo Soleri bridge looking upwards to the sky.

Soleri lives in the Paradise Valley/Scottsdale area.

We all commend Scottsdale for installing this unique addition to the Waterfront and Old Town Scottsdale area.

This series of photos of the Soleri bridge will last for a couple more days.

Photo: Series on Soleri Bridge

Here is your first photo of the Soleri bridge that just opened up on the Waterfront in Old Town Scottsdale.

Paolo Soleri has designed numerous bridges but this is one of the first ones built.

My friend who is an artist and photographer, Jim Lowman, took these photos so I thought I would share them. His website is Leafdog Art Gallery.

Soleri's Path and Entrance to Gift Shop

Now we leave the gift shop in yesterday's photo and walk towards the car to leave Paolo Soleri's art studios.

I hope you have enjoyed your tour of Paolo Soleri's residence and art studios, which is called "Cosanti."

It is always amazing to find these gems in the communities in which we live.

Paolo Soleri's Gift Shop

What a cool gift shop. You can see Paolo Soleri's architectural style in this wonderful innovative design at "Cosanti."

Note the use of concrete and the interesting shape of the room. I was glad I could capture this photo with my new wide angle lens.

It is fun to walk the grounds of Cosanti. And to wander through this very large gift shop to enjoy so many unique creations of art. It is like walking through a museum.

The textures and colors are amazing and each bell is so different. I enjoy the two Soleri bells I have hanging on my tree in the backyard. They have a distinct sound. I can hear them in the house and know when the wind is blowing.
