Photo: Cactus flower and a bee.

A few days ago I posted a photo of a cactus flower and my husband left a comment suggesting that bees would like the flowers.  Indeed they do, as today's photo shows.

This week we have photos of the Sepik River tribes and villages posted on our Viva la Voyage travel photo site.

Looking up to the top of a tall cactus revealed several several bees enjoying the nectar of a cactus flower.  I trust the bees will share nicely.  I am glad that there are lots of cactus flowers to keep the bees occupied, as I am allergic to bee stings.

This week we are showing photos of Majorelle Gardens of Marrakech, Morocco on our Viva la Voyage travel photo site.  This delightful spot was owned for many years by Yves Saint-Laurent, and his ashes were spread in the garden.

Photo: Bee Landed on Saguaro Flower

The bee that I showed in yesterday's photo landed on the saguaro blossom, and was no doubt feasting on pollen and nectar.

There are several buds visible in this photo that have not yet blossomed.  The staggered timing of the blossoms allows the saguaros to be in bloom for several weeks, although each flower lasts for a couple of days.

Tomorrow will be my final post in this series, and like the bee, we will go in for a closer view.

Photo: Bee coming in for a landing on Saguaro flower

I mentioned that hummingbirds love saguaro blossoms, but so do bees.  This bee came in for a landing on the flower while I was getting ready to take my photo.

I did not have my good camera with me, but was using a smaller camera that has a maximum f-stop of 8.  That meant that my shutter speed was set at about 1,000 of a second, which was fast enough to catch the bee in mid air.

Now this photo gives you a better perspective of the little bug crawling up the tiny flower.

It was early morning and the light was starting to rise so the bugs started to separate from their huddle.

Photo: Little Insects En Masse

These little insects are so tiny.

These little yellow bugs were huddled right below the bud of the flower. They were only in this area so that they could stay warm together.

I was taking macro photos of the flower and was so surprised to see these little yellow dots start moving and that is when I used my macro to show they have legs.

We all love Spring.

Here is a photo of a butterfly landing on a lantana in our backyard.

Look at the delicate spotted body. It looks like a leopard body.

We are so glad that the flowers are blooming.

Photo: Up Close with a Bug

This photo is a very close-up macro of a bug on the sunflower that you saw yesterday.

While I was taking yesterday's photo, I saw some slight movement and then was very surprised to see this tiny bug.

Dave of Costa Rica Daily Photo did not like this photo of a bug. He is not too keen on seeing bugs this close.

Here is a macro photo of a multi-colored grasshopper.

Look at those red antennae and the bright blue leg.

The pink bug eyes are pretty cool too!

Before I got serious about photography, I was afraid of bugs and did not want to look at them very much.

Now, I am fascinated at looking at bugs through a macro lens. They make good models and interesting photos.

This photo shows how the butterfly opened its wings and then just sat there ever so patiently so I could get a photo.

I took this photo while hiking in Ramsey Canyon in Southern Arizona.

This photo shows a butterfly that landed on Dave of Costa Rica Daily Photo's hand.

You can see the butterfly tongue checking out the skin on his hand.

The butterfly seems very calm.

Tomorrow you will see the butterfly open its wings and sit in the sunlight on the hand.

Now here is a photo of a bright green grasshopper.

It does not look real as it appears to be wearing lime green armour or something.

We saw the best insects while staying at Casa San Pedro Bed and Breakfast in Southern Arizona near the Mexican border.

Great photo opportunities. I need to go visit again.

Here is a photo of a ladybug hanging on to the swaying thing weed.

You can see the blur of the tall trees behind the ladybug.

The trees were on the San Pedro River, which is right near the Mexico border in Southern Arizona.

We stayed at the most fabulous Bed and Breakfast called San Pedro Bed and Breakfast.

The place is known for bird watching as well. Great hosts and great breakfasts and home made pies.

I took this photo while down in Southern Arizona.

The light made the wings so colorful and the face looks like a mask.

Here is a photo of this colorful grasshopper on this fluff ball plant.

I could not believe the very vibrant colors and detail of this unique grasshopper.

Photo: Praying Mantis in Defense Posture

Here is a rare photo of a praying mantis who moved into a defensive posture when a lizard started approaching the insect.

I had no idea that a praying mantis could turn itself into such a large and scary posture.

It almost looks alien. Look at its head and eyes.

And yes, the defensive posture worked and the lizard went away.

I learned that praying mantis are rather strong and even sting and kill hummingbirds when the birds go to feeders.

Here is a photo of two colorful, large grasshoppers.

This photo was taken in front of the border fence.

These bugs look like they are wearing armor.

They also look prehistoric.

This photo was taken at the first light and you can see the tiny orangish insects begin to stir.

You also can see the type of tiny flower that blooms from these desert buds.

The flower is maybe 1/4 inch. And, these are on a desert plant consisting of a tall green reed with no leaves.

Nature is fascinating.
