Prairie dogs are cute, but they are rodents. Farmers and ranchers do not like them, however, and sometimes refer to them as "prairie rats."
I took this photo at the Arizona Sonora Desert Museum just outside of Tucson. That explains how I was able to get close enough to be able to tell that this is a female.
