To lift off in a hot air balloon, of course, the pilot has to fire up the burners to hear the air inside the balloon. This provides a photo opportunity when you are in the basket looking up into the balloon.
This same scene repeats itself, to a much lesser extent, when the pilot fires short blasts of hot air to gain altitude. The sound and fury of the flames get the adrenaline pumping in anticipation of the balloon flight.
This week we are showing photos to the colors of Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, on our Viva la Voyage travel photo site.

It is a rush to hear, see, smell and feel the gas whooshing out and flaming up the inside of the balloon.
When I drove to Tucson very early last Friday morning, I saw one hot air balloon flying over the north Tucson foothills. I remember thinking that it surely was too warm for hot air balloons but the air must have been cool enough. I wouldn't have guessed it.
