Here is a photo of the haboob arriving on the street where our office building is located.You can see the blue sky getting blotted out with the yellow dust wall as it descends on downtown Phoenix.
At least these dust storms are not that dangerous. They are far safer than hurricanes or tornados.

What i do not understand is why we have had three of these haboob storms in the 29 years I have lived in the Phoenix area -- all three during this summer.

That is absolutely unbelievable! Great shots Julie.
Very impressive! But they can be dangerous elsewhere. Remember being stuck in a yellow Volkswagen minibus during a sand storm in southern Israel. Not much paint left on the car afterwards.
