Here is a photo of a majestic stalk that sprouted up from the center of my Blue Agave in my front yard.The blue agave is about 5 feet high and five feet wide. Once the stalk grows from the center, the blue agave dies.
You do not quite know when the agave will sprout the stalk. It could be years from now, or sooner if the plant is stressed or the weather can cause the stalk to grow.
I have been happy to watch this stalk grow over 20 feet in height, but saddened that this magnificent large agave will die.
I have been photographing it and will share some photos with you over the next few days so other can appreciate this special plant and its short life once the stalk grows.
In this photo, you can see the flowers on the stalk with the interesting clouds and blue sky behind it.

If you get artful shots like this one, I guess it will be worth sacrificing the plant. Would it continue to live had you cut off the stalk and not let it go to seed?

That is really a tall one. And now I'm wondering if that is the agave they use for tequila.
