Photo: Saguaro blossoms

I found a rocky embankment alongside a road in Paradise Valley near a saguaro, so I could climb up and get a better photo of the blossoms at the top from close to the same level.   This saguaro has a particularly dense and plentiful collection of blossoms squeezing together at its crown

The saguaros come into bloom in May.  It is still a little early for most of the blossoms, but there are some in bloom and I continued to drive around to see if I could find some blossoms in full bloom to photograph.

News about Arizona Wildfires:  You may have heard on the news that there are several wildfires raging in parts of Arizona.  One of the fires has just burned Sunflower, which is the location of the abandoned mine that I showed in a series of photos that I posted several months ago (which you can see under the "mine" label in the right margin).  During the last 2 days the fire doubled in size, burning through 12,000 acres, and is only 7% contained.  Crown King, which Sharon showed on her Phoenix Daily Photo site recently is under a mandatory evacuation order, but many residents refuse to leave.  Those fighting the fires are heroes.  We hope for success containing the fires soon.

We have new travel photos posted at Viva la Voyage from our wonderful trip to Atacama, Chile

These are a lot of blossoms crowded onto the top of a cactus.

This will be beautiful when in bloom.

It will be a heavenly scent I'm sure...the blooms, not the fire!
