Oops.

Even though she looked like she had an excellent swing, you can seen the ball veering off the right. She wanted to go down the fairway to the left.

This shows how difficult golf is to do well. You can do 10 things with your stance and backswing perfectly, but make one tiny mistake and the ball goes left, right, fails to get airborne, or starts out straight and then hooks left or slices right.

But then, every so often you hit a wonderful shot, and that keeps you coming back to play again.

The excellent stance of this golfer as she addressed the ball continues with her back swing.

She maintains her balance, has turned her hips slightly, the club is almost parallel to the ground, and she has kept her head down and focused on the ball, which is crucial to maintaining proper balance. Pulling her head up can result in topping the ball.

I used to play golf in the 1980's when I worked in sales. I have played only 2 or 3 times in the last 20 years. It is a wonderful hobby, but it takes a lot of time.

This golfer looks like she has good form. Her knees are slightly bent, she looks well balanced, and her back is very straight.

I know that this photo is somewhat far away, but I did not get very close to her, of course, because I did not want to disturb her. I took this photo from across the lake, outside the golf course boundary, as pedestrians are not allowed on the course.

This is another lake at the McCormick Ranch Golf Course, which I also showed yesterday. The penalty for sending a shot off the fairway could easily put your next shot behind the trunk of a palm tree.

In addition to the amount of water, another way to tell that this is an older golf course is by the height of the palm trees. These trees were probably planted when the course was new about 40 years ago.

Scottsdale has 174 golf courses. Tom Weiskopf, the famous pro golfer, has said that "With our weather, courses and mindset, Scottsdale has no rival in the world when it comes to golf."

This is a photo of reflections in a lake at the McCormick Ranch Golf Course. It is one of the older golf courses in Scottsdale, as newer courses do not use this much water.

Surprise! Flowers!

This photo and post is by Dave, Julie's husband. Last night Julie returned from a business trip to the East Coast and this flower arrangement in our kitchen awaited her return.

Alas, I cannot take credit for this thoughtfulness or generosity. These flowers were delivered to our office on Friday, the gift of a client of Julie's who was obviously appreciative of her work for the client. I brought the flowers home and emailed a photo to her so she could begin enjoying them.

During our wedding ceremony, I surprised Julie by reading a poem that I wrote. One of the verses in the poem pledged to be as devoted to her as she is to her clients. It is a good thing I did not promise to be as thoughtful to her as her clients are to her, as I might be coming up short.

Here is a macro photo of a diamond cholla cactus I planted in my backyard several years ago.

I like how the sun catches the ends of the cactus spines and they look like toothpicks.

The red tiny flowers on top look like a hair-do.

My secretary volunteers at Liberty Wildlife and she brought me this photo to share and remind people how previous these owls are and how much care they need when their habitat is impacted.

Liberty Wildlife is a great place to support. They handle wild birds and really have great care and commitment.

I apologize as I do not know who the photographer was for this photo but will see if my secretary can find out so we can give proper credit.

This is the Tempe Butte and these are office buildings and condos in front of the Butte and there is actually water below.

The water is running in the Salt River but it is blocked with an inflatable dam, otherwise no water would remain.

It was early morning and the light was starting to rise so the bugs started to separate from their huddle.

These little insects are so tiny.

These little yellow bugs were huddled right below the bud of the flower. They were only in this area so that they could stay warm together.

I was taking macro photos of the flower and was so surprised to see these little yellow dots start moving and that is when I used my macro to show they have legs.

This is a great tradition with music, walking through the cactus at night, and with great food.
