I took the photo standing on the grassy area at the back of the field.

Photo: Praying Mantis in Defense Posture

Here is a rare photo of a praying mantis who moved into a defensive posture when a lizard started approaching the insect.

I had no idea that a praying mantis could turn itself into such a large and scary posture.

It almost looks alien. Look at its head and eyes.

And yes, the defensive posture worked and the lizard went away.

I learned that praying mantis are rather strong and even sting and kill hummingbirds when the birds go to feeders.

At sunset I was able to increase the color and tints on my camera to capture this pretty pinkish color.

The agave almost looks painted.

Happy New Year's!

Today is theme day worldwide for City Daily Photo Bloggers.

I chose this macro of the interior of a colorful orchid. You can hardly tell it is an orchid.

It looks like an amusement park ride. Or, it looks like a modern piece of art. The top section hanging down that is all white looks like a torso of a person. I really like this macro image.
