Here is a rare photo of a praying mantis who moved into a defensive posture when a lizard started approaching the insect.I had no idea that a praying mantis could turn itself into such a large and scary posture.
It almost looks alien. Look at its head and eyes.
And yes, the defensive posture worked and the lizard went away.
I learned that praying mantis are rather strong and even sting and kill hummingbirds when the birds go to feeders.

These insects can look so scary. I've seen one in this posture before and I wouldn't want to mess with it. Alien is the right description for them. What a shot!!
