Photo: Calacas Singers

It is Day of the Dead time again.

Here is an interesting way to decorate a couch.

Kathy Murillo is a Latina artist who decorates and paints every item in a house.

She painted this red couch with a Day of the Dead mariachi joining a group of singing mariachis.

Dia de los Muertos is about celebrating and remembering people who are not here.

This painting probably represents a group whose fourth musician has passed away, yet every time they play, they remember and believe the spirit of this musician could be present.

The photo below shows you the entire couch including the grass.

Neat artwork -- but what an unusual canvas!

I really like the "Day of the Dead" tradition in Spanish/Mexican culture. This sofa is really cute!

I've given up trying to convince people that Day of the Dead is not a creepy holiday. These photos make me smile! I think I could live with that couch. Do like my grandmother and throw a spread over it when company comes (unless of course they would appreciate the art in the same way we do!!!!)

I think I would be reluctant to sit on the couch because it is more a work of art than an a piece of furniture.
