Photo: Can the bird reach the cactus bud?

Birds, especially doves, love to land on the Mexican fence post cacti in our back yard.  Usually they are scouting to see if it is a good time to swoop down to visit our bird feeder.  When the cactus is in bloom, however, they love to feed on the blossoms and buds.

That presents a bit of a challenge for this bird.  Will he be able to eat this bud?  I will show a few more photos of this resourceful bird in the coming days.
