I mentioned in my post on Monday that golden barrel cacti have nice flowers. Here is a late blooming baby golden barrel cactus in bloom.
Hummingbirds and bees love these. We chose some of the plants for our yard from information published by the Desert Botanical Garden for plants that will attract hummingbirds.
In the winter, we will put out a hummingbird feeder, particularly if there has been a frost that has cut back on the flowers naturally in bloom. We also keep a bird block in out back yard, so we have dozens of quail in our yard.
This week we have photos of an old cemetery and medieval ruin on the Hill of Slane, Ireland, posted on our Viva la Voyage travel photo site.

The only unfortinate thing about these flowers is that they do not last longer.
I love these yellow and red striped blooms.
It's always such a nice surprise to see the cactus blooming. But as you said, soon they are gone.
