I apologize for the poor quality of this iPhone photo through our office window, but it does illustrate the impact of last Friday's dust storm as the monsoon season arrived. The visibility up Central Avenue from our office was reduced to about one mile (1.6 km).
Each summer we have very hot temperatures with very low humidity until the monsoon season arrives in mid July. For the next 6 weeks the clouds and occasional rain will moderate the high temperatures somewhat, but the humidity will creep up a bit.

This is amazingly short visibility.
Most of us prefer the hot temperatures to the humidity.
that's looking toward my neighborhood. I agree with Glenda, I prefer 100 degrees and 10% humidity to 100 degrees and 35 or 40% humidity.
Dust storms look so scary on the horizon when they are heading into town. I would so much rather not actually be able to see the air I am breathing. This shot shows just how thick it can get.
