Photo: High Desert Scottsdale Homes

Here is another photo from Stuart's hike to Tom's Thumb.  There are some large homes scattered in the high desert at the foothills of the McDowell Mountains.  It is about 3-4 degrees cooler for every 1,000 feet of elevation gain.

This week we have photos of Blarney Castle, Ireland, this week posted on our Viva la Voyage travel photo site.

These high desert homes in north Scottsdale are in a dramatic and pleasant location, but this is a bit of a commute to downtown Phoenix from there. I suspect that some of the residents are retired, and others probably work in the many businesses now located north Scottsdale rather than driving all the way to central Phoenix.

I'm not sure the temperature difference will make much difference this weekend when it's supposed to be 118.
