Photo: Helicopter Rescue from Camelback Mountain

The helicopter swooped down from Camelback Mountain closer to our house to deliver the injured hiker to a landing spot where an ambulance was waiting to take the hiker to a hospital for treatment of his broken ankle.

In this photo from our backyard, it is visible that the side door of the helicopter is open and one of the rescuers has his or her legs dangling out the side door.

The wife of the injured hiker sent me an email that said that everyone at Scottsdale Memorial Hospital - Osborn was wonderful.  Their family had gathered from California and Arizona for Thanksgiving, and they had their Thanksgiving dinner in her husband's hospital room!

It turns out that after the helicopter rescued the hiker who suffered a broken ankle, the helicopter made yet another rescue on Camelback, as I will show in tomorrow's final post in this series.

This week we have photos of our recent trip to Papua New Guinea posted on our Viva la Voyage travel photo site.  We returned about one week ago.  It was a wonderful mix of native cultures, South Pacific scenery, a total solar eclipse, a volcano erupting at night, and snorkeling on coral reefs teeming with colorful marine life.
