Photo: Sweat Lodge Compound

Our balloons flew near the site of a horrible tragedy.  This is a photo of the location of a scene that made international news in October, 2009.

Later this month is the third anniversary of the tragedy that occurred during a sweat lodge retreat outside Sedona.   Three people died and more than a dozen became ill from a long sweat lodge ceremony during a $10,000 per person, five-day retreat.  They became overcome by the heat.

The person who operated the sweat lodge retreats was prosecuted and convicted of negligent homicide, but was acquitted of the more serious charge of manslaughter.  Here is a link to a news story about the tragedy.  I will show a closer view tomorrow.

This week we are showing photos of the main temple complex of Bangkok, Thailand on our Viva la Voyage travel photo site.

I remember that tragedy very well. It was in the news quite a lot.

Ten thousand dollars? I could have got the guests sweaty for half that, and wouldn't have killed any of them.

I do remember the event. Senseless.

This was a tragedy that should never be repeated.
