Photo: Dia de los Muertos

This photo is not for Halloween.  These are figurings for the traditional Mexican observance of Dia de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead.  It is observed on October 30 in connection with All Saints Day on November 2.

These figurines were on sale at the Guadalupe Mexican Market, which I showed in some posts several months ago.

Day of the Dead is not a spooky time.  It is a time for families to remember their departed relatives.  Often the figures include favorite life activities of the departed relative.  For example, if Uncle Jose like to go fishing, there might be a skeletal figure of a person fishing.  I have a collection of Day of the Dead figures in my home office.  People either love them or are creeped out by them.

This week we are showing photos of Cambodia on our Viva la Voyage travel photo site.
