Photo: Our Lady of Guadalupe

The Church of Our Lady of Guadalupe that I showed yesterday has, not surprisingly, a statute of Our Lady of Guadalupe in the church yard.  David and I have visited the Cathedral outside Mexico City that was built on the site where a miracle is said to have occurred in 1531 and the image of Our Lady of Guadalupe appeared in the cloak of a peasant.  The cloth with the image is on display in the cathedral

This image has enormous significance to Latinos.  People make pilgrimages to the cathedral outside Mexico City, often walking the final blocks on their knees.  When David and I visited, there was a Latino couple from Mesa, Arizona who visited the shrine at the same time.  The woman was in tears.  When she was a child, her mother took her older brothers and sisters to Mexico to visit the shrine, but she was considered too young.

This week we are featuring photos of Golden Bangkok, Thailand on our Viva la Voyage travel photo site.  Its elaborate temples are architectural treasures.

These statues and shrines are a familiar sight around these parts.
