Here is a photo of the famous Fountain Hills fountain of water.
As you can see from the photo, the water shoots high in the air, higher than the tall palm tees.
This fountain goes high in the air and is the World's fourth tallest fountain. It goes up 560 feet (170 meters). It is about the height of the Washington Monument.

I bet many in the drought-stricken areas want a piece of that. Looks refreshing!
What makes more sense in the desert than to build a tall fountain to shoot water in to the air, where much of it will evaporate away.
When I was consulting and flying back and forth all the time, I remember flying over this a few times when coming into the Phoenix airport. Sometimes the pilot would let us know to look out the windows.
Its a pretty sight.
