This is a closer photo of the same cactus flower that I showed the day before yesterday. With this cactus blooming for only one day per year, I wanted to take advantage of it to get a least a second day of posts to enjoy its magnificent blooms.
I noticed the flower in the evening, and figured I needed to get my photo at night rather than waiting for the next morning. By the next day the flower had already started to shrivel.
This is the time of year that some of the cacti are sending out their flowers. The Saguaros are blooming all over town, but it is hard to photograph them because their blossoms are so high up.
We have new photos of the high Atacama desert of northern Chile posted this week on our Viva la Voyage travel photo site.

Such a beautiful color. You really must watch for these blooms or like you say you miss them.
I like the night shot. The dark background is almost like a studio background that makes the subject stand out.
Gorgeous, I would not want to miss these!
