Photo: Blooming cactus

One of the cacti on our patio blossomed a few days ago.  This photo shows how a small cactus can produce giant flowers.

How long does a cactus like this stay in bloom, you might wonder?  One day.  By the next day the flower was shriveling up.  I guess it must exhaust the resources of the cactus for such a small plant to produce such large flowers.

We have new travel photos posted at Viva la Voyage from our wonderful trip to Buddhist Bhutan.

This huge flower gives us something to look forward to next year, if we catch the one day it blooms again.

I did not know this bit info. Cactus flowers then need a deep human appreciation--and now I will appreciate them even more when I see them!
