Photo: Sunflower mine shaft

Here is another photo that Stuart took of the Sunflower mine. This photo shows some of the equipment for hauling the ore out of the mine.

This mercury mine was discovered in 1911 by a prospector who was searching for gold. In addition to mercury, the mine did produce some gold, silver and copper.

Just think how harsh it must have been to work in this isolated and rugged place in the hot Arizona summers.

It is unusual to see this much mining equipment lying around.
