Photo: Inside Sunflower mine shaft

The mine has a network of old shafts. If I had been with Stuart when he made this trip, I would be telling him, "Make sure you have a strong flashlight and watch carefully for snakes and scorpions."

This is an old mercury mine. I will show more photos that Stuart of hte mine equipment, because this was actually a relatively new "old" mine, as it was not abandoned until the 1960's.

Today is Sunday, so we have new photos on our Viva la Voyage travel photo site. This week we are showing photos of Tanzania, including the people, wildlife, and the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro.

I think a strong flashlight and fresh batteries is a necessity for going down a mine shaft like this.
