Photo: Traffic Calming

Here is a photo of a sign that says Traffic Calming.

You can see the design of the street is meant to slow you down. There are medians with plants and the traffic planners made sure the road was not straight like a racetrack.

Do you think these traffic calming techniques work?

Check out our new photos of the Wonders of Egypt at our Viva la Voyage travel photo site.

I'm not sure. They work at that exact spot but not always leading up to it.

Traffic calming. Hmmm. Maybe they should just require that everyone listen to spa-music while driving.

interesting sign. definitely a new one for me! We need one out where we live--even though were rural people still try to drag-race.

I don't know if the sign calms traffic, but this image calms me - very serene, yet colorful.

Well I would have to try it. Near me there is a street that has a flashing sign that gives your speed. People always slow down at least right before the sign.

I don't know the data, but in greater Hartford traffic calming has been aggressively implemented on numerous major streets. My impression is that cars drive more slowly.

Here is my traffic calming post from 2010; http://hartforddailyphoto.blogspot.com/2010/07/traffic-calming.html
