Photo: Salt River Project Canal

Here is a photo of one of the canals that are part of the Salt River Project canal system.

The ancient Hohokam Indians developed the base of this irrigation system in the desert and, in modern day, the Salt River Project, built and expanded the canal system.

This is the canal where people walk, job and bike.

Today is Sunday so that means new travel photos. Check out our new photos of the Wonders of Egypt at our Viva la Voyage travel photo site.

Have walked along some of these canals with my dog and always meet others doing the same. Away from traffic and really quite peaceful.

The steep sides of the canal bank shown in your photo are why it is so dangerous if people fall in the canal. They are too steep to climb out.

It's like many rivers running through our city!

The blue of the sky and canal is rich. I have heard of the Salt River Project, but I didn't know what it did.
