Photo: Rescue Helicopter on Camelback Mountain

What else comes with the hiking season at this time of year?

Snakes and helicopters.

Because Camelback Mountain is so popular at this time of the year, we see a lot of rescue helicopters.

People don't realize how hot it gets and become dehydrated and suffer from heat stroke, or the person falls and is injured and rescue help is needed.

People always underestimate the amount of water they should bring.

Check out gorgeous photos of the red rock and rushing waters of Sedona, Arizona at Viva la Voyage!

There are lots of helicopters in the sky. Rescue helicopters fly over Camelback Mountain, National Guard helicopters fly over the Desert Botanical Garden. I see lots of police helicoptors flying over the central Phoenix area where I live. We have a busy sky!

Steffe raises a good question. In the mountains of NH, if a hiker/climber is deemed at fault they are billed the cost of the rescue. Notices to that effect may prevent some foolish people from getting in trouble, but then again, foolish people are foolish and no warnings will help them.

In Arizona they will bill people who carelessly cause the expenses of rescue efforts. They also bill people who start forest fires.
