Photo: Diamond Cholla Cactus

Here is a close up photo of a diamond cholla cactus.

You can see the skin of the cactus is sort of like a diamond pattern.

These are hard to find and there is a guy who grows them in the Sonoran Desert and then he brings one or two each year to the Desert Botanical Garden to sell. I now have two in my yard.

The ends of the tips of the needles are yellow so at Sunset as the light catches the needles, it is very pretty.

Check out travel photos of the Como Duomo on Lake Como, Italy at Viva la Voyage!

A beautiful Cholla! Do they give fruits too? You seem to be an expert in cacti.

I knew these were unusual compared to jumping cholla, but I did not know they were in such short supply, nor had I ever studied them so close to observe the diamond pattern.

I will now treat this plant with more respect, although I always try to treat cholla with respect and keep a respectful distance from them.

Very nice closeup. I don't think I'd want to get that close.

Those look very sharp, bet they would be pretty painful. Would not want to retrieve a golf ball from under one of these.
