Photo: Luminaries Night

Today's photo shows the night walk during an annual tradition in our area of going to the luminaries night at Desert Botanical Garden.

I will be there tonight with friends and family.

You walk around the cactus gardens and drink and eat and listen to live music that occurs at numerous spots through the garden.

Volunteers light thousands of these candles that have paper bags around them which are the luminaries that light your way.

Check out our travel photos of the magnificent Serengeti at Viva la Voyage!

The luminarias at the Desert Botanical Garden are a delightful tradition. Adding to the pleasure are the mild evening temperatures in the Arizona desert. Back East people would have to bundle up to go to a nighttime event in December.

Makes me want to be there right now. First fell in love with luminarias seen on rooftops on a drive from Albuquerque to Taos, NM.

They are spectacular in Scottsdale, too! I love our city daily photo community.

My favorite holiday tradition when I lived there! Beautiful photo.

Very pretty. Selby Botanical Gardens does something similar. They put decorations up in the trees and around plants -- it's beautiful.

That's pretty. I love luminaria at this time of year. Until this summer, I worked in Columbus, Ohio, and they had an evening in a historic district in which the streetscapes were lined with luminaria. It was priceless. Good memories.
