Chuckawalla

Look at the photo of this interesting lizard.

This is a chuckawalla lizard and they live in the Southwestern desert.

They can swell their bodies up with air to block themselves into tight locations so that predators cannot pull them out.

I like the angle and perspective of this lizard. He certainly looks prehistoric.

We have the most superb wild animal photos on our travel site at Viva la Voyage! Truly photos from Tanzania, Africa that you will not want to miss seeing.

And you must not have alarmed him because he's neither puffed up nor in a corner. Nice shot.

I think that lizard better consider Mary Kay cosmetics!

He doesn't look particularly happy about being photographed.

We have chuckawalla lizards here in our desert, too! I've never been able to get that close to one. Nice photo!

I really like the varying hues. How kind of him to pose for you.

Better than any National Geo photo of the critter. Superb. Love the color and that it shows how he/she/it blends into the surroundings (without blending in).

Next time I look in a full length mirror and feel that I am larger than I used to be and should be, I will think to myself, "I am just a little bit like a chuckawalla and am puffing myself up so that some big monster will have a harder time pulling me out of a tight spot.
