Cool Agave Cactus Stalk

The Gorgeous Blue Agave cactus in my front yard is shooting up a stalk to the sky. I love the colors and texture of this macro photo of the blue agave stalk.

The stalk reminds me of Jack in the Beanstalk as it grows very fast and high and it is quite thick. The stalk is now over six feet high and continues to grow.

Soon it will stop growing in height and open its lovely flowers. It is quite magnificent when this type of Agave blooms.

Some say that you can dry out the center stalk and make a didgeridoo out of it.

The sad news is that the large blue agave dies once it grows a stalk and blooms. The blue agave is one I planted as a pup just over 3 years ago and it is very large so I will be sad to eventually see it die. At least I have many more blue agave pups in my yard and I will plant again.

You know, Julie, it looks like a macro of an asparagus stalk. Amazing.

Is this plant related the grasses? It sure looks similar in this photo which is, by the way, a neat shot.

I was going to say the same thing about it looking like an asparagus stalk. It's beautiful!

Wonderful macro. Thank you for the comment on the (most often) danish blog about the corkscrew and cork. I was discussing that this corkscrew had a function as a drill.
I look forward to the macro-shots of cactus. One of ours (the only one) will have flowers in the near future.

This is such a gorgeous detail! Fantastic shot!
I don't see as much agave stalks now as in previous years here, maybe because of the awful winter he have had...

Very pretty, looks like velvet. Too bad they have to die but there are more to come.
