Tall Saguaro at the Boulders

What a great day for a hike among the Boulders in northeast Scottsdale.

Look how tall the Saguaro Cactus is. It is over 100 years old.

I love the mix of boulders, blue sky, cloud and cactus. A perfect Arizona day.

Check out travel photos of the Grandeur of Venice at Viva la Voyage!

The cactus is like finger pointing heavenward.

Considering that a saguaro does not grow an arm until it is 80 years old, I would say that this saguaro is well over 100, and probably 200 years old.

Their roots extend out about the same distance as they are tall, but there is no tap root and the roots are only an inch or two below the surface. After all, in the desert there would be no purpose in roots growing down when there is no water down in the soil.

Same kind of sky we are having today... let's enjoy the day before the heat kicks in!

The clouds and sky are such a beautiful canvas for the boulders and cactus.

A simple shot here, yet gorgeous. Thanks Dave for some basic facts I didn't know.
