Desert Path

Here is a photo of a lovely desert path at the Desert Botanical Gardens.

You can see how important shade is to those of us who live in the desert and have primarily sunshine every day.

Every little bit of shade helps. The desert trees may look sparse but actually they filter and create diffused shade in larger sections as compared to a dense round tree, which might require a person to sit directly underneath it to obtain any benefit from its shade.

You will observe that Arizonans have a habit of always finding shade and standing in it or parking their cars in the shade. It really does make a huge difference.

Here in New England people congregate in pools of sunlight. We seek the shade perhaps six weeks out of the year. For some of us...six days.

It is a very inviting path, and the trees and cacti must be great to see, shade or no shade!

I think it was General Sherman who led an army expedition across Arizona shortly after the Civil War and who wrote something along the following lines:

1. In Arizona, you are usually 4 miles from the nearest shade, 6 miles from the nearest water, and two feet from Hell.

2. We went to war with Mexico and gained Arizona. We should go to war again and make Mexico take Arizona back.

It is good that history --- and air conditioning -- has proved him wrong.

I experience that same need of shades when I am travelling to South of Europe - and sometimes in Denmark too. But I also see the difference when you are living in a desert and have "too much" sun every day.

This reminds me that we must take advantage of this beautiful weather for soon we will have the heat. Very inviting path you have chosen.

So lush and very undesert-like. I've just sent my parents the link, as they are right now at their holiday home in Casa Grande and I hope they can see how beautiful it is with their own eyes. Fantastic shot!!:)

A friend of mine told me of this place. He loved it. I can fully understand your appreciation of shade too.
