This is another unique cactus in my backyard.
The cactus is called Cleistocactus Strausii and it comes from Argentina and Bolivia.
The cactus is white and hairy and grows quite tall. My current cactus is over three feet in height.
Once a year, this cactus will produce these tubular, maroon colored flowers.
You can see how unusual it looks to have these perpendicular swirling pink flowers growing out the side of the tall white cactus.
The flowers also have a thin furry white hair on them.
The second photo provides a close up so you can also see the tiny yellow flower at the end.
The third photo shows what one of the flowers looks like as it falls from the cactus to the ground.
Today is Sunday so that means new travel photos. Check out the Recoleta Cemetary in Buenos Aires, Argentina at Viva la Voyage!

Marvelous shots and info, Julie.
I just bought one of these cactus at the fall plant sale at the Desert Botanical Garden. I haven't seen it bloom yet.
Funky cactus! It looks so soft - but I guess "look, don't touch?"
A cactus is such a study in opposites..beautiful, but painful; hardy and enduring plant, but delicate and fleeting blossoms. I think they're truly beautiful covered in snow. Awesome photos!
This has got to be the weirdest cactus I've seen :). Very cool!
Is this the "old man cactus"? This looks soft but I'm sure it's not.
I like the color of those cactus flowers. Very pretty!
A beautiful series. That first pic looks soft enough to snuggle up to, but I wouldn't try it!
brilliant macros

Wow - that is really cool. I had seen them, but I didn't know much about them.
