Waiting to Strike

This venomous Mohave Rattlesnake is waiting to strike!

This month's theme is Waiting. I though this photo was perfect for a Southwest perspective on theme day.

This Mohave rattler was holding position with no movement and I was able to capture this phenomenal close up.

You can see this rattler's eye and eye lid in the first photo. The details of the front of this snake are amazing.

The second photo shows the snake further back. I used a 300 lens to capture the details and was very lucky the snake held still and was in a good location for me to capture this image.

We have travel photos from Ek Balam, a unique pyramid, in Mexico. Just go to Viva la Voyage!

WAITING for this handsome fella to strike is not my idea of fun! It's also a very sober sight for early in the morning; I think I'll go back to bed!

Fantastic shot! :-O Do I want to know how you got this close up shot of an extremly venomous snake? Do you have a seriously mean telephoto lens? :-)

I want to know if the snake DID strike after you took these photos. And if it did...who took the hit! This is a totally unique and creative spin on 'waiting'. I suspect no one else will post anything like it!

Yipes!! I am glad you had a good zoom for these shots.

I live right by the Pilchuck glass School Chihuly started back in the 70s. It is a very unique place. Love you glasswork shots. MB

Great shots and yes, perfect for your location! I am scared of snakes, yet fascinated by them at the same time!

I was glad to see that you had a nice long lens to take these photos! Yikes! That's a scary creature.

The first photo is stunning - and you're right, the detail is amazing. I don't think I've ever had the opportunity to see a rattler up close!

Very nice, Julie!

It's perfect. But ummm, sorry, I didn't really look that close, I'm scared stiff of snakes. Give me scorpions and spiders any day!

That face kept me awake at the middle of the night. Luckily small Stefan is asleep, but for how long, as one never knows what goes on inside.
A wonderful Wednesday for you all.

Sure is a handsome portrait!

Around here rattlers don't grow very long but they are enormously huge in every other way. I love the first photo.
