Purple Pods Living Amid Sand Dunes

While I was walking on the sand dunes admiring what lives on and in a sand dune, I saw these very interesting purple pods.

Look at the size, color, and texture. Very unique.

Enlarge the photo or look closely as ants are using these purple pods as a trail.

Today is Sunday, so we have new photos on our Viva la Voyage travel photo site. This week we are featuring photos of Tahiti. If you have not stayed in an over-water bungalow, click on the above link to see the view from Papeete, Tahiti to Moorea.

They're beautiful. And ancient looking. I wonder if there is anything edible there in that plant.

Amazing detail on this photo, and another plant that manages to survive in harsh conditions.

What an ant trail! Maybe they are giving their little feet a break from the hot sand or are just taking the more scenic route!

Never saw such a plant before.

What an amazing place it must be, where you can see such wonders.

A wonderful week for you.

Quite beautiful, amazing and unique as anything that makes a living in the desert!

Looks like something I saw in a scene from Invasion of the Body Snatchers. Are you the 'real' Julie or the 'clone'?

I have to admit I'm not familiar with this plant either. Something tells me you'll find out the name though. You're pretty efficient at doing your homework.

I thought PODS were those big dumpster-like thingys they park in your driveway!

What kind of pods are these? It's amazing what one finds in the desert.

Excellent photograph, Julie!

A very interesting picture!
A treat probably for a botanist and undoubtedly for our eyes.
