A Gigantic Boulder Larger Than Some Houses

Today's theme day for all city daily photo bloggers is "BIG."

Well, this photo shows a gigantic boulder. It does not look real. It looks like we are in a small model of a community with houses, grass and saguaro cactus. Enlarge the photo for the full effect of BIG!

When these houses and golf course were built, they were built around this gigantic boulder. This area is at the Boulders Resort and Spa in North Scottsdale. The resort name fits perfectly for today's photo.

Indeed, there is no better example.
An Arizonian monolith!

That is one BIG boulder. When you enlarge the shot you see a collection of small stones in the green below the boulder...they are like its offspring.

That's a really BIG or should we say HUGE boulder! Don't go try to push it! Yikes!

For a moment, I thought it was Boulder, Colorado.

How fabulous this is. So glad you suggested enlarging the photo - you really see the size but also that lovely adobe house. So reminds me of when I was in Utah last near - not so far from St. George in a place called Ivine. I suppose it's no surprise as you are not that far from it.

It's amazing!

It almost looks like it could topple over.

I did enlarge it and it's huge! It looks like it is perched rather precariously though.

This is really big and could do even for a huge Theme Day. Perfect choice, nice view, great image.

OMG, Julie! It's been such a long while since I last visited that I'd forgotten just how magnificently spectacular your photography is! You are perfectly suited for capturing the amazing beauty of your surroundings.
That boulder would make me a bit nervous... I remember that story a couple years ago of a large boulder (in CA?) that came loose, rolled down a hill, and cut a house in half! Ugh!
But it sure is a gem in your gorgeous photo. You certainly do justice to Scottsdale!

Perfect photo for the theme! I always wonder, though, if those things will fall. They got to where they are somehow...when will they decide to continue their journey? I wouldn't want to be close by when they take that trip!

Saretta said...

Yeah, I guess they built around it. Would have been too much trouble to move that thing! LOL!

Hope it will stick over there like that, never fall down.

Wow. How did I miss that?? We lived in Phoenix for a year in the late 8o's, and I'm pretty sure that Boulder was around then! Perhaps the development wasn't, and that's how I missed it.

Wonderful 'Big.'
