Shopping with Live Music on the Street Corner

Today's photo shows the activity on one of the street corners in Old Town Scottsdale. Live music and shoppers enjoying the day.

You can see how colorful the decor is, and there are lots of plants and flowers.

There are also lots of places to sit and enjoy the moment.

The area is a favorite of the Valley of the Sun and locals regularly come to Old Town Scottsdale for the music and the fabulous diversity of restaurants.

Gosh, this is so much better than what you get in usual shopping centers, the 12345th version of the Girl of Ipanema or some far too smooth piano!

I love Rob's comment. It reminds me of the scene at the end of the Blues Brothers movie where John Belushi and Dan Akroyd has to listen to elevator music while being chased by the police, army, neo-Nazis, and whoever else.

And Rob forget to mention the boring homogeneity of so many national chain stores that dominate most shopping malls.

It is sad when a distinctive local area becomes so trendy that the real estate prices become so expensive that the national chains are the ones who can afford the rent.

I love all the chili ristras hanging above the musicians.

The fellow on the guitar looks as if he might be captured by the sculpture behind him at any moment. I really like the composition of this.

Rob's comment about music such as the Girl from Ipanema in shopping malls prompts me to remember my disappointment when I bought a CD very quickly from an Andean street band playing in the Puerto del Sol in Madrid on New Year's Eve Day. It was crowded and I bought the CD based on the title "Sacred Music" and I did not check the song titles on the back.

It had songs like Frank Sinatra's "My Way." Not what I expected or wanted on a CD from an Andean band.

I'll bet it is nice to walk around and hear the music. I agree with Dave. The music in our shopping centers and malls makes me want to take ice picks to my ears.

Looks like fun, particularly in contrast to the gray skies hanging low here today. A stroll in Old Town would be a great antidote to gray-day blues.

That would definitely put me in the mood to buy something!

Much better than "the mall."
