Lizard on my Fence in my Backyard

I have had quite a few critters visiting my backyard lately. This interesting and large lizard is one of them. I will show you a few more over the next couple of days.

He was holding his territory on top of my backyard fence. You can see the tip of Camelback Mountain in the background.

This lizard is a black collared lizard. It has a fairly large head and get quite big. They saunter to side to side and are not afraid of very much.

I have seen them hold their ground and their territory is quite large. They do push-ups in the sun and they are regularly out in the open. I try to leave sprawling bushes in my yard for these lizards to live under.

His skin reminds me of so many daily beach goers here in So Fla;a dermatologist's paradise.

Excellent lizard shot, Julie, and thank you for identifying the mountain behind him. Thank you also for your kind comment at my site.

Nice to meet the locals! He must have a great view from your fence.

I love these little critters. They make great garden friends.

He's pretty big! Looks like he is enjoying the sun. I have a gecko living somewhere in my house right now and can't catch it to put it outside because it's too quick. It must have had babies too, because I have caught two little ones and thrown them out. They aren't as fast as their momma!

He looks like he's just chillin' and working on his tan.

Lovely colors when you enlarge. I'm a big fan of lizards -- have a million at my house, and will occassionally make his way inside (they all seem male to me).

The push-ups are a hoot. It is apparently part of their cooling system. Or heating system. I forget which.

He's a cute little guy and looks like the ones that I used to see when I was a kid.

He's beautiful! Great capture. Lizards here don't have such pronounced scales and are probably not as big as this one. But I like having them around our holiday house because they eat the bugs :-). This one looks scary enough that he could eat something much larger than a bug!

Cool little guy!
I also had a visitor on my balcony last night: a cicada! I thought I would not be able to sleep, but it was OK, it seemed like I was in Africa! :-)

Camelback Mountain adds a nice touch to your lizard shot. This is a lizard with attitude!

I'd love to hunt this lizard!
Just as a precaution... how big is it actually?

I've learned that a lizard is a messanger of good luck to come.
Hope yours is just around the corner.

The best thing about them is they eat bugs!

By the way, the D90 is a super camera...better, I think, in some ways than the D300.
