Colleges and Bikes

Today is theme day for the Arizona city daily photo bloggers. The theme is "Back to School."

Bikes on college campuses seems a perfect choice of a back to school reminder. Drive carefully around those bicyclists.

I went to Arizona State University (ASU) for college. The campus is extremely large and bikes were a good way to get around. We had over 50,000 students and the campus was over 1.5 square miles in size. We sometimes had 11 minutes to get between classes and it was very difficult to make it.

What about your schools? Were they large? Did you use a bike to get around?

Check out the other Arizona city daily photo bloggers to see what their interpretation of Back to School is:

It's that time of year again. I always hated going to class when it was still so nice and summery still.

Interesting question posed by your post today.

I did indeed have a bicycle in college. I bought it for $5 at a Goodwill store. I did not need or use it to get to class because I went to George Washington University in downtown Washington D.C.. The campus was about 5 blocks by 5 blocks, so it was easy to walk to class.

I used the bike to ride to the U.S. Capitol building, where I had obtained a part time job in a Congressional office. I could also use the bike for carrying back groceries from the nearest supermarket, which was the Safeway store in the Watergate complex. The location of George Washington University, just four blocks from the White House, was an outstanding place to go to college and to nurture and inspire my interest in government and politics, which was also facilitated by the access to the city that my bicycle provided.

I attended Florida State University and I also have worked there for the past 32 years. I used a bike to get around when I was a student, but we also have a very efficient free bus service that can get you anywhere on campus pretty fast. Our students started getting back last week and what a difference in the traffic!

And to keep the same bike at ASU all year round can be a challenge too. lol.

I attended Southern Ill. University and it had 25,000 students back then -- I definitely used a bike! I had a light on it so I could use it at night!

Nice angle on your bike shot. I never had a bike at college, but I tried rollerblades once. I guess I did O.K. I never ran anyone down.

Love the intersecting curves Julie, and any shot with bicycles in it can't be bad. :-}

The angle of the shot is great. Yes, a bike is the only way to go.

Congratulation on this photography. Being a student, I used to ride with the bike that once belonged to my dad, allowing me to be not a single day late ever - honestly.
Please have a nice Sunday and a nice start into the new week.
