Jokake Inn Bell Towers

I think the bell towers at Jokake Inn are gorgeous. You can see the silhouette of the bell.

I took this photo with the last rays of the sun hitting the plaster walls of the bell tower. The sun's rays gave the building a magnificent glow.

The Jokake Inn is located on the grounds of the Phoenician Resort and Spa in Scottsdale.

I thought this was a perfect choice for Arizona's Theme Day of "Arizona's Treasures," which is being celebrated today.

Please check out the other Arizona Theme Day participants.

Here is a bit of trivia about the Jokake Inn. If any of your readers have seen the movie "Raising Arizona" with Nicolas Cage, they might recognize it. The facade of the Jokake Inn was used as the house of Nathan Arizona, the unfinished furniture dealer whose baby was kidnapped by Nicolas Cage's character.

It is interesting to me. I wonder the significance of the bell in the bell towers.

Here, in the late 1800s, big old three story farm houses were built with a watch tower on top and a bell tower either inside it or next to it.

I did some investigating and learned that it wasn't an alarm thing for Indians, but it was a call to dinner for the farmers and workers in the fields. The housewife could stand up there and survey the fields and see the farmers working and rang the bell. Dinner time.

Julie, the color of the plaster walls is incredible. It's a great way to showcase the silhouetted bell. If this isn't a treasure, I honestly don't know what is.

I do love bells, as they bring people together across all continents, all faiths...probably the only true sound possible.
