Nightfall Over Scottsdale

Yesterday you saw a part of Camelback Mountain, and  this photo is taken from the East side of Camelback Mountain, about one-third of the way up the mountain.

This photo looks out towards north Scottsdale and the McDowell Mountains. We regularly have visibility of mountain ranges that are 50 miles (80 km) in the distance. The McDowell Mountains are about 20 miles (30 km) away.  Click to enlarge for details.

Other than the Arizona theme day post tomorrow, for the next few days I will share a few photos of nightscapes using the lessons we learned from our Full Moon Photography class last Friday night at the Desert Botanical Gardens. I hope you enjoy this series and the fabulous Moon rise we captured.

Funny thought, that you might have night, while my day is 'in full swing', being upon the same planet.

You got a beauty. My best photography advise is practise and go with your gut. This is a real Rhapsody in blue image.

This is so neat when it's enlarged. You really got a panarmic view.

Love photos taken at this time of day. The blue sky is lit up and the city lights are glowing - it's the best! And the mountains in the background - wow!

The Valley of the Sun looks pretty darn good at night, too! Wonderful photo.

I recall that view, duringthe daytime for me, about 1/3 of the way up Camelback. It is the first view where one gets a true sense of "oh my Lord, I really am getting up here!" For you to do it at night is very intriguing. I wonder who is up there in the balmy Scottsdale nights? Coyotes? Banditos?

Behind the Camelback Inn is Mummy Mtn; my son and I actually climbed that mountain, too. The first 1/3 has a looping trail from the Spa at Camelback, and the upper 2/3rds is completely hacking and pathfinding. The peak was glorious, but coming down, becuase of the decline angle, was a challenge. I recommend it if you are looking for a "new view" of Scottsdale. It is on public land, but have to drive into Marriott property to get there.

See how one single image, your sweet night shot, can conjure up so many vivid memories. Thank you for being our distant "eyes" to your great corner of the earth.

P.S. Giggled when I noticed your Profile photo is in front of Niagra Falls-water, water everywhere for the desert girl. Happy day!
