Little Ducks at Indian Bend Wash

As described yesterday, Indian Bend Wash has lots of lakes. Lakes means ducks and geese.

The little ducklings are swimming so close to their mother. It is fun to watch the chicks learn to swim.

The Canadian Geese, however, are rather mean and territorial. The geese migrate to Indian Bend Wash each year. There can be 40 or more at a time in a particular area. They will chase you and attack occasionally.

I do like the ducks.  We have Mallard ducks that fly into our pool area at times to try and make a home.

It is sort of funny that we live in a desert but have this seven-mile long recreation greenbelt that has now become a home for ducks and geese. We actually have duck crossing signs in some areas of Scottsdale.

I also like ducks (wel... not in politics* ;) ), and espiecially small. Old ducks are careful, and I've seen mother-duck and small followers escaping from watching people many times.

They seem to be enjoying themselves doing what ducks do. It makes a nice picture.

As god can't be everywhere, he created the 'mother'.

Beautiful picture indeed!

What a wonderful shot, those seven little ducklings and their mama gliding through that velvety water.

Cute family,,, safe close together.

Those baby ducks are probably staying so close to their mother because of the personality of the nearby geese that you described.

We have duck crossing signs here too! I love to take my grandson to feed the ducks.

I'm glad you're a duck friendly town. Everything about them makes me laugh -- the way they talk and hunt, but especially the way they walk. They look so self-important.

As you can imagine, we get a large number of Canadian Geese here in the Pacific Northwest.

They're so cute! I saw a very similar family just today on the Lake of Garda and we stopped to admire them, totally enchanted!

Amazing how fast they're growing, isn't it.

Pretty sight of all the ducks moving around together in the lake.

They're so cute! Unfortunately our local ducks didn't breed this year.

Great shot. Normally the ducklings will venture a little further away from the mother than these do.
