I really enjoy seeing all of the cactus in bloom in the Spring. These cactus flowers and buds were so colorful.The flowers look like they are made of tissue paper.
It is starting to get hot in Arizona, which means no more cactus flowers, except for night blooming cactus. You must go out under the moonlight to enjoy night bloomers.
This cactus is called Opuntia basilaris, but is also known as the Beavertail Prickly Pear Cactus.

I am always amazed at the variety and beauty of the flowers that various cacti are able to produce. This one is indeed lovely.
I used to have a few cactus plants but they were never as beautiful as this one.
How fortunate that Mother Nature has timed cacti to bloom in Spring, when it it delightful outside, rather than in summer, when it would be hot to go outside and photograph the cactus flowers.
It would have been even more considerate for Mother Nature to give Arizona its Spring time temperatures all year round.
That was the one negative thing about the blooming desert: it meant summer was coming and all that heat!
