Cactus Bloom with Stamen and Pollen

I planted a new cactus in my yard this winter and it has produced some fabulous blooms.

Here is one of them. You can see the pollen on the petals.

The details are so interesting. Sadly, this flower only lasted a few short hours and then it went away.

I believe this cactus is called the giant flowered hedgehog pink cactus or echinocereus enneacanthus v. stramineus.

So fleeting. Shame they don't last longer. There must be a lot of activity during those few hours of beauty.

It seems the prettiest of cactus flowers have the shortest lives.

They are beautiful flowers but as you say you must be quick to catch a look. I have one in my yard that only blooms at night.

Cactus takes a certain commitment. You must check them daily around this time or you might miss something wonderful. Like this.

Julie, I've noticed the same thing about certain cactus flowers: very short blooming time. But when they do bloom, and Julie with a camera turns up - look out.

so sad that it's beauty is short lived. I often miss my cactus blooms because they happen at night

Fantastic close-up! This is a beautiful flower and it's a shame their lifespan is so short.

I would have never guessed one would have to be so quick to catch this flower. Beautiful color.

Each time you post, yours will appear beautifully at the top of that list. Thanks for providing such interesting content for my friends and me…
